PhD studentship (archive-based investigation of pre-production processes in selected children’s animated TV series made in Britain)

February 14, 2012

Loughborough University School of the Arts, English and Drama and the Department of Information Science are jointly offering a PhD Studentship for an archive-based investigation of pre-production processes in selected children’s animated TV series made in Britain.

The subject and object of the research is threefold:

  • To identify and categorise a variety of animation pre-production materials, and to develop and validate a data analysis methodology that enables critical engagement with selected processes and practices.
  • To determine and define a range of approaches in the specific creation of animation production, and in particular, selected children’s television programming in a defined period.
  • To create an inter-disciplinary outcome providing an analysis of data collection methods and principles in relation to the specificity of animation production, and as such, provide a critical interpretation of production processes specific to animation, and its intended children’s audience.

The candidate must necessarily have an applied knowledge of data collection, management and presentation, and an understanding of past and contemporary archival practices. Equally, the applicant must have a committed interest in animation production and its creative processes, specifically in relation to producing programmes conducive to a children’s audience.

The studentship provides a stipend of £13,590 per annum for up to three years plus tuition fees at the UK/EU rate.

Note: International (non EU) students may apply but will need to demonstrate that they can fund the difference in fees between those for a ‘UK/EU’ and ‘international’ student themselves.

Enquiries should be made to Emma Nadin (School of Arts Research PGR Administrator) E.L.Nadin@lboro.ac.uk

Details about the application process can be found here: http://www.lboro.ac.uk/study/postgraduate/essentialinformation/howtoapply/
