DIS PhD student receives SLA’s Rising Star Award

Sara Batts, a part-time PhD student in the Department of Information Science, has been named one of the Special Libraries Association’s (SLA) Rising Stars for 2011.

The Special Libraries Association are the world’s leading association for information professionals and special librarians, and Sara, who is currently the President of SLA Europe, has been presented with the award for showing exceptional promise of leadership and contribution to the association and profession.

SLA’s President Elect, Darron Chapman, expressed his joy and congratulated Sara on receiving the award. “I am delighted that Sara’s contribution to the information profession has been recognised with the Rising Star Award”.

He went on to comment on her work by adding: “Sara continues to be an active participant and promoter of SLA and other networking groups. She regularly speaks at information related events talking about issues relevant to our changing profession”.

Recently, Sara has presented at Internet Librarian 2010, Online 2010 and the SLA Leadership Summit in Washington DC.
